Marty Supreme is a fast-paced and consistently tense film, moving quickly from the beginning and rarely allowing much room to relax(I was on the edge of my seat, heart racing, for the entirety of the film). The energy comes a lot from Marty himself. He is extremely focused on his goals and refuses to back down. His drive is imperfect and sometimes at the expense of his loved ones, that level of commitment is genuinely admirable — the sort of determination that makes me want to strive for success just as he does.
The story changes direction a lot, which makes the movie feel fast and tense instead of neat and organized. The table-tennis scenes feel especially intense; you feel the stakes in every swing, keeping you fully absorbed.
The movie is similar to Goodfellas in how fast it moves and how stressful it feels, constantly pushing forward without many breaks. At the same time, Marty’s relentless pursuit of success echoes Whiplash, with the same feeling that everything else becomes secondary to reaching an almost unreachable standard.
